COORE & CRENSHAW

CC2Dormie was built according to Coore & Crenshaw’s Philosophy of Traditional Strategic Golf Design, as being the most rewarding golfing experience, particularly when presented with quality, artistic flare that compliments and preserves the topography of the Natural Terrain. Their biggest challenge is to pick the golf course sites that possess the greatest natural beauty that can be featured with unique course and bunker design.

CC1Dormie’s wide fairways do not intimidate the average golfer. However, the challenge for the better golfer is the actual placement of their shots to take advantage of the subtle and some, not so subtle, Fairway contours in order to obtain the best approach to the various size greens – frequently guarded by swales and naturalistic bunkers built by “Bunker Guru”, Jeff Bradley. Coore & Crenshaw’s Greens are known worldwide for their quality and challenging features without relying on exaggerated “Moguls” in their Greens. Both Greens and Fairways are designed and maintained in the Coore & Crenshaw’s tradition of “Hard and Fast” making the contour of both an even greater challenge.

As Ben said at the U.S. Open in Pinehurst in 2014, the Coore & Crenshaw open Fairways off the Tees are unlike many new course designs which have very narrow corridors off the Tee that leave only one option for placement of Drives. Coore & Crenshaw prefer to challenge their golfers to take advantage of the open approaches to contours in the Fairways is a must for lower scores.

The SereneCC surroundings of Long Leaf Pines and Rolling Terrain, and the total solitude of the expansive course layout, with plenty of Natural Habitat, combine to create the ultimate golfing experience at Dormie, as all Players attest.

Of Golfweek’s Top 100 Modern Golf Courses 12 are Coore &Crenshaw’s designs (or 5 out of the Top30). GolfWeek Ranks Dormie at #2 in NC, or #43 in the US according to GolfDigest.
